Everyone who wants to be on Wollongong's new council has nominated, and the draw has taken place to decide the position on the ballot. Our candidates were there to see the result: we got the first position in Ward 1, second in Wards 2, second in Ward 3, and lucky last in the mayoral ballot. Mithra Cox (Greens Ward 1 Lead candidate and mayoral candidate) was interviewed by WIN.

Wollongong coal miner's debt would fund solar panel plan
Low-income residents of Wollongong would be able to access interest-free loans to buy solar panels – funded by a coal miner’s debt – under a local council proposal from the Greens.
Coal money for solar power: it’s a policy even the most dedicated Greens member would only dream of. But that’s what the party’s Wollongong mayoral candidate Mithra Cox is calling for.

The Greens have vowed to fight the proposed Russell Vale Mine expansion, after Wollongong Coal held a little-advertised consultation in Corrimal last night, Illawarra Greens spokesperson and Mayoral candidate Mithra Cox said today.
"Wollongong Coal has given very little to our community. They have unpaid rates going back to the 1990s and have made no commitment to pay what they owe," Ms Cox said.
