Politics in the pub - the rise of anti-establishment politics

Both in Australian and overseas, there has been an upswell of enthusiasm for anti-establishment political candidates. With anti-establishment politicians coming from both sides of the political spectrum (such as exemplified by Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders), what do we make of anti-establishment politics?

Are the Greens an anti-establishment political group? And, if there is actually a rise in public enthusiasm for anti-establishment politics is this a good thing?

For our first Politics in the Pub event Dr Stewart Jackson will be speaking. Following this will be a Q&A and discussion. Our MC will be Cath Blakey, Greens candidate for the Wollongong by-election. Join us for a drink and a robust discussion of ideas!

Dr Stewart Jackson is a Lecturer in the Department of Government and International Relations, with a specialisation in Australian politics, at the University of Sydney. His broad interests cover the breadth of Green politics in Australia and the Asia Pacific, with a special interest in party development. Dr Jackson currently co-hosts semi-regular program on Australia politics on radio 2SER.
