Greens support calls for an end to NDIS cuts

The Illawarra Disability Alliance has called a rally for today at 10:30 in the Wollongong Arts precinct to call for an end to NDIS cuts and for governments to work with participants and providers to build a scheme that delivers long-term support.

Greens candidate for Cunningham Dylan Green supports these calls and is attending today’s rally.

“The NDIS is meant to be a needs-based system, but expenditure caps mean that not everyone’s needs are met”, said Mr Green.

“The NDIS has to be flexible enough to respond to the needs of its participants, including the possibility for growth if necessary.

“The NDIS could transform lives if done properly, but this government has made the NDIS a nightmare for users, leading to underspending of around $4.6 billion annually.

“The Greens want to ensure that people with disabilities are at the centre of decision-making, policy and planning through a $30 million increase in Commonwealth funding for disability advocacy organisations over four years, and $300 million in the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

“The NDIS needs to be properly staffed and funded.”
