Cooper Riach for Heathcote

Cooper Riach for Heathcote

I’m Cooper Riach, and I’m your Greens candidate for Heathcote.

I’ve lived here with my family in the small town of Bundeena, on Dharawal country, since 2014.
Growing up amongst the Royal National Park, I’ve grown a deep appreciation for the natural world. We grow from this world, so we must care for it. First Nations people know this better than anyone. It's about time our government acts with this understanding.

Youth representation in NSW Parliament is sorely lacking and as a result it lacks the flexibility and creativity to deal with the problems we now face. At just 22, with a Bachelor of Science, I am standing to change this.

We are all under pressure from a cost-of-living crisis, as well as an ever worsening climate and biodiversity crisis. As young people disproportionately affected by these crises, my friends and I fear for our futures and the futures of our children … yet we have not given up hope.

There is so much we can do, we just need the political will to do it.

Our public service sector is on life support and everyone including the staff are suffering.

By redirecting public subsidies from private schools and hospitals back into the public sector where they are needed, we can start to reverse this trend of privatisation which has run rampant under the NSW Liberals.

We can divest from fossil fuels and secure a renewable energy future with publicly owned infrastructure and community needs at the forefront. We can free our communities from the shackles of the coal industry, which has been polluting our protected environments, destroying fragile ecosystems, and putting our water supply at risk.

We can do these things and so much more. I am so proud to be standing as your Greens state candidate.

As your representative I will always listen and support our vibrant, creative communities, and the shared connectedness to this beautiful part of the world we call home.

I am eager to employ bold evidence-based policies while welcoming the ancient wisdom and perspectives of our First Nations people and engaging the creative spirit of youth.

Together we can do so much better.

Join me and the Greens in the push for real solutions to our cost-of-living crisis, real protection for our beloved environment, and a rapid shift towards a sustainable future.
