Date: 29 June 2020

Greens Councillor Mithra Cox today expresses jubilation that the Council cycling budget has been radically I creased to add an additional 15 cycleways in the next financial year, following a huge response from the community.

“Wollongong has been waiting a long time for decent bike infrastructure,” Cr Cox said.

“I am so thrilled to see such a significant increase in cycling infrastructure in our city. It will change the way we can get around.

“I want to be safe when I’m riding my bike, and I want my kids to be safe.

“This budget will see the rapid roll out of safe, separated bike paths. It will see a huge improvement in safety and quality of life for our residents.

“This has been a long time coming. We have been waiting decades for some of those missing east west links to connect our coastal share path to places people need to go like shops, train stations, the city centre and the university.

“It is moments like this that make all the effort feel worthwhile - when we see changes that will actually makes our city a more beautiful place to live,” Cr Cox said
